According to a new report from the UK Centre for Automotive Management (CAM), in the first quarter of 2018, the UK sold 14,084 electric vehicles, increasing its market share from 1.
5% to 2%, with plug-in hybrids accounting for 71%
of sales.

The report shows that while this brings the UK closer to leading low-carbon transport nations, it still lags behind leaders China and Norway

Between January and March, nearly half of the newly registered vehicles in Norway were electric, compared with 35%
in the same period last year.
In the first quarter of 2018, China sold 142445 electric vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 154%.
CAM estimates that new registrations of electric vehicles worldwide could account for 6% of the automotive market by
2020.
