According to the latest statistics released by the French Ministry of Ecology and Inclusive Transformation (MTES), the country's new photovoltaic installed capacity reached 246 MW in the first quarter of this year
    .
    That's nearly three times
the 86 MWh of new capacity added a year ago.

In the first quarter, France's new photovoltaic installed capacity quadrupled year-on-year

The last two quarters continue the growth trend of the last quarter of 2015, signaling that a series of tenders launched by the French government in the second half of 2016 are beginning to bear fruit
    .

This year's new installed capacity mainly comes from photovoltaic projects with a scale of more than 250 kilowatts, totaling 169 megawatts
    .
Of the remaining capacity, 250 kW comes from rooftop PV projects
    .

By the end of March, France had installed a cumulative PV capacity of 8.
    29 GW, of which 7.
91 GW in mainland France and 386 MW in overseas territories and Corsica
    .

PV systems larger than 250 kW account for more than half of the cumulative capacity, totaling more than 4.
    3 GW
    .
This is followed by systems between 100 kW and 250 kW, and systems with capacities between 36 kW and 100 kW, each accounting for a share
    of about 1.
    1 GW.

MTES also reported a total capacity of 3.
1 GW of PV projects awaiting grid connection at the end of March, up from 2.
87 GW at the end of December, and 845 MW of that capacity has already been approved by the grid
    .

In terms of power generation, MTES reported a 12% increase in solar power generation in the first quarter, to about 1.
    6 terawatt hours
    .
However, this figure is only 1.
    1% of
France's total electricity generation in the most recent quarter.
