Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas announced this week that it has received an order for 220 MW of wind turbines in the United States, bringing the company's orders in 2018 to more than 10 GW
.
Vestas said the order was from an undisclosed customer to supply 100 V120-2.
2 MW turbines
for an unnamed project in the United States.
Vestas will not only provide wind turbines for the project, but will also be responsible for services
such as installation and commissioning.
Project delivery is expected to take place in the third quarter of 2019 and commissioning
in the next quarter.
"The expansion of U.
S.
V120-2.
2 MW turbine demand is a direct result of Vestas' commitment to rapidly advancing wind turbine technology, combined with our unmatched wind turbine database and installation experience and proven technology," said Chris Brown, President, Vestas North America Sales and Service.
”
While this may be a relatively unobtrusive piece of news, it is still a major announcement for Vestas, as it marks the 10 GW mark in orders for 2018, and 2019 is still a month away to set a new record
for the wind turbine manufacturer.
Vestas has seen an increase in annual orders in recent years, from 8,943 MW in 2015, 10,494 MW in 2016, and 11,176 MW
in 2017.
Whether Vestas will be able to use an entire month to outperform previous years' order records remains to be seen
.
However, 10 GW in 11 months is still an impressive achievement and continues to highlight the growing importance of
the global wind energy industry.
