According to the British Solar Energy Association, the UK solar industry added 175 MW of solar power capacity in the first quarter, bringing the country's cumulative installed photovoltaic capacity (PV) to more than
14,000 MW.
According to the association's report, ground-based solar accounted for 70% of the quarterly increase, however, the rooftop market boomed, driven by subsidy policies, with rooftop solar up 14%
year-on-year.
In the 12 months to the end of March, the UK added 660 megawatts
of grid-connected solar capacity.
According to the British Solar Energy Association, new installations across the country are expected to reach 1,000 MW in 2021 as growth
is seen in three main markets, namely residential, commercial roofing and ground mounting.
"In addition, pipeline growth continues to be strong in every segment, especially for large-scale solar farms
.
2021 will continue to be an important year for the UK solar industry," said
Finlay Colville, head of research at Solar Media.
Solar farms in the UK now cover more than 3 million homes, and even without state subsidies, solar project development is on the rise
.
According to statistics, subsidized solar energy accounts for 7.
3% of the total solar power generation in the UK, with a cumulative capacity of more than 1 GW
