Preliminary data from the German solar industry association BSW shows that the German solar market has grown by 30% in the past year, with almost 4 GW
newly commissioned in production.
The industry body explained that falling prices for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and rising electricity prices have led to growth
in the market.
In addition, the widespread climate debate and the large-scale deployment of electric vehicles have further stimulated solar investment
.
Despite growth in 2019, more needs to be done to enable the country to meet its climate goals
.
Carsten Kornig, Managing Director of BSW, said: "Without a faster expansion of renewables, there will be a generation gap
as nuclear and coal power phases out begin in 2020.
”
The agency said that only a threefold increase in the expansion of renewable energy can fill the power gap
caused by the withdrawal of coal and nuclear power.
