According to the latest research by Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables, wind turbine orders for the full year 2018 increased by 31% year-on-year, with global wind turbine orders increasing 20% year-on-year to nearly 18GW in the fourth quarter, surpassing the record 5.
4 GW
in 2016.
Fixed order capacity increased year-over-year in most regions in the fourth quarter of 2018
.
However, this trend has not been replicated in the United States, where the decline in orders is mainly due to reduced
demand.
"Demand from the offshore wind industry influenced the technology mix and wind turbine ratings
of orders in 2018.
The industrial sector announced nearly 8 GW of offshore order capacity in 2018, nearly 2 GW higher than the 2016 record," explained Luke Lewandowski, research director at Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables and report author, "Wind turbines rated 8 MW or higher accounted for more than 40% of offshore order capacity in 2018, with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Vestas accounting for 64%
of the sector.
”
Lewandowski added: "In terms of further activity in this area, seven OEMs received orders in China and three independent OEMs received confirmed orders
outside China.
”
As noted in the Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables report, in 2018, the share of turbines ordered from 3.
5-4.
99 MW increased, with only 10% attributable to Chinese offshore orders
.
"In this 3.
5-4.
99-MW rating segment, 10 turbine OEMs received orders in 2018, with Vestas (56%), Siemens Gamesa (13%) and Nordex Group (12%) respectively in the top three," Lewandowski said
.
Overall, demand from China and India continued to dominate the 2-2.
99 MW segment in 2018, driven by renewed demand from the United States
.
The latter is a key strategic market
in the industry that has recently become.
”
Lestandowski explains: "Vestas broke new order volume records
in 2018.
The company's 5.
5 GW order intake in the fourth quarter exceeded the annual intake of all OEMs, not just the top three
.
”
Western turbine OEMs dominated the top four spots in the annual order volume rankings, ranging from 14.
2 GW in Vestas to 4.
8 GW
at Nordex.
The latter posted strong orders in the fourth quarter (1.
8 GW), which is some distance
from Goldwind in the full-year ranking.
Four Chinese turbine OEMs ranked in the top 10 of the company's order capacity for the full year, although all but Shanghai Electric Wind Power Equipment Company saw a sequential
decline in capacity in the fourth quarter.
