Navigant Research, a US clean energy technology research institution, recently released the latest research report on microgrids, as of the fourth quarter of 2018, 2258 microgrid projects were confirmed worldwide, with a cumulative scale of 19.
575 GW (including those already installed and planned).
Johnathon de Villier, research analyst at Navigant Research, said: "The microgrid deployment tracker shows that North America is the leading microgrid market in terms of total capacity, followed by Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa
.
”
Not only that, but the report also reveals that solar PV and energy storage feature prominently in modern microgrid systems, especially rural electrification and energy access programs driving growth
in the remote sector.
According to the report, remote microgrids account for nearly 40% of global microgrid capacity, totaling 7,604.
4 MW
.
The next largest customer segments by capacity are commercial/industrial (C/I) and utilities at 5,542.
9 MW and 2,307.
9 MW, respectively
.
At the same time, the remote market is also ahead of other markets in terms of new capacity, with 67 new microgrid projects reaching a cumulative installed capacity of 415.
