According to a report released by the U.
S.
Department of Energy, the U.
S.
wind industry supported 105,500 full-time jobs in 2017, an all-time high
.
In 2017, the number of wind power employees in the United States reached a record high of 105,500
The total number of jobs includes 43,400 workers in construction, development and transportation, as well as around 23,000 workers
in wind turbine manufacturing and supply chain.
Around 18,700 full-time jobs in the wind industry are related to
the operation and maintenance of wind farms.
As some manufacturers added staff or expanded production, industry employment levels reached record highs
.
The Department of Energy noted that wind turbine suppliers have enjoyed "generally strong" profitability over the past four years and that all three major turbine producers serving the U.
S.
market have domestic plants
.
Despite this, the United States still relies on wind power products imported from some countries, because domestic manufacturing is only specialized
in manufacturing certain turbine components.
The highest level of domestic production is for the assembly of wind turbines, with a share of more than 85%, while the manufacture of blades and hubs is between
50% and 70%.
Overall, the U.
S.
invested $11 billion in new wind farms last year, adding 7,017 megawatts of new power, bringing the cumulative total of wind power to 88,973 megawatts
