Hyperloop is licensed for passive maglev technology
.
The technology uses a so-called "passive maglev" system to propel train prototypes at
high speeds.
The passive maglev system was developed
by Richard Post while working with colleagues at Lawrence Livermore National Labs.
In 2000, physicist Richard Post developed passive magnetic levitation, the basic principle of which is to install a loop of non-powered coils in the track, implanting permanent magnets into the "pod" shaped carriages of the train, creating a levitation effect
.
Common maglev trains require infrastructure upgrades, which are complex and costly, for example, the entire track must be equipped with an uninterruptible power supply
.
When Richard Post died in 2015, he called his new system "Inductrack.
"
Bibop Gresta, HTT's chief operating officer, said: "With the passive maglev system, the hyperloop tracks do not need to be equipped with power stations
.
The passive maglev system is most suitable for hyperloop, and the construction cost will be further reduced
.
From a safety point of view, the passive maglev system has a great advantage, its levitation effect is purely generated by motion, even if the power fails, the hyperloop 'pod' type car can continue to levitate until the speed drops to a minimum before touching the ground
.
”
In January, HTT announced construction plans to lay a full-scale demonstration track
in California's Quay Valley.
At the time, Grestar said: "In 36 months, we will see the first passenger on the full-scale hyperloop
.
" ”
According to Musk's 2013 vision, the hyperloop can carry both passengers and goods, reaching a top speed of 760 miles (1,223 kilometers) per hour
