Globacom, a Nigerian telecommunications service provider in Africa, recently signed a submarine optical cable construction contract with Chinese equipment supplier Huawei, and Huawei is responsible for the construction of the Glo-2 submarine cable system
    .

The Glo-2 system will be laid along the coast of Nigeria, connecting Alpha Beach, Lagos, to the southern region
    .

Sanjib Roy, Regional Director of Technology at Globacom, said: "Glo-2 will be the first submarine cable in Nigeria to be deployed in a non-capital region as the five existing submarine cables only connect the capital Lagos
    .

Glo-2 will have a capacity of 12Tbps and will provide ultra-high-speed connectivity to oil platforms and communities to enhance data coverage and support the growth of the enterprise market in this part of Nigeria
    .

The 850km submarine cable will also be integrated into Globacom's existing ground backbone to provide additional service redundancy
    .
The system will consist of three pairs of fibres, the first of which will connect Lagos directly to the southern region of Nigeria
    .
The second pair of fibers will be equipped with eight switchable branch units (BU) that will provide high capacity to offshore gas stations and communities directly connected to the BU, while the third pair will be equipped with two switchable BUs to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea
