Recently, Huawei Marine Network said that it will cooperate with Chilean telecommunications company CTR to deploy the world's southernmost submarine optical cable Fiber Optic Austral (FOA) to connect three regions
in southern Chile.
Huawei Marine Network will participate in the construction of the world's southernmost submarine optical cable project
Chile's deputy communications ministry Subtel will invest in a new submarine cable FOA to connect the Las Lagos, Aysén and Magallanes regions
.
CTR has been awarded the contract to deploy and operate the submarine cable, while Huawei Marine Networks will provide an end-to-end submarine cable solution
.
The submarine cable system has a design capacity of 16Tb/s and a length of 2,800 kilometers and is expected to be completed
by the end of 2019.
Pamela Gidi, Deputy Minister of Telecommunications of Chile, said: "Huawei has been working with
the public and private sectors by innovating various high-tech solutions.
This is reflected in the FOA project, which will bring multiple benefits
to the southern region of Chile.
”
Patricio Morales, CEO of CTR, said: "The work of gathering technical information through maritime surveys and the work of Huawei Marine Network to develop detailed engineering for the Southern Subsea Trunk has high technical standards and details, which allows the project to adapt to the complexity and challenges
of deployment.
Optical transmission systems with capacities up to 100Gbps per channel will provide high-capacity transmission
to the area.
In addition to cheaper prices, regions can be interconnected with existing operators' networks in a simple way to provide superior quality service
in terms of bandwidth and latency.
”
Mike Constable, CEO of Huawei Marine Networks, said: "The company's technology and service capabilities have once again been recognized
by customers in South America.
The FOA submarine cable will provide state-of-the-art connectivity to enhance the digital economy
in the southern region of Chile.
We are honored to have been selected as CTR's system supplier and partner, and the successful realization of this network investment will bring significant social and economic benefits
.
