Huawei Marine Networks (HMN) recently announced that it has completed a maritime survey of the Maldives-Sri Lanka Submarine Cable (MSC), which is designed to connect Hulhumale, an island in the Maldives archipelago, to Mount Ravinia in Sri Lanka
.
It is understood that the 840-kilometer-long MSC submarine cable system will include four pairs of optical fibers and be equipped with Huawei's high-output titanium shell repeaters
deployed at a depth of 3,700m.
The cable will be owned and operated
by a consortium of investors including Ooredoo Maldives, Dhiraagu and Sri Lankan telecom operator Dialog Axiata.
Dhiraagu and Ooredoo Maldives will each own 45 percent of the cable, with the remaining 10 percent owned
by Dialog Axiata.
According to the plan, the submarine cable system will be put into service (RFS)
by the end of 2020.
