Huawei Marine and HKT PCCW Global will work together to build the first submarine cable between Mauritius and Rodrigues Island, further promoting Internet connectivity
in Africa.
This will be Huawei's 12th submarine cable system deployed in the African region to address the growing demand for connectivity
.
According to reports, the 700-kilometer-long submarine cable has a design capacity of 16Tbps, and Huawei Marine will provide an end-to-end solution, which is scheduled to be put into production
in 2019.
By then, the system will meet the increased
bandwidth demand of Rodriguez residents and commercial enterprises over the next 25 years.
Frederick Chui, senior vice president of global data sales at PCCW Global, said they are using their experience in designing, manufacturing and maintaining submarine cables around the world to assist another service provider, Mauritius Telecom, in fully commissioning their own products
.
PCCW Global has reached an agreement with Mauritius Telecom to build and maintain a high-speed submarine cable connecting the Rodrigue Islands in the Indian Ocean and Mauritius, which will greatly improve connectivity in Rodrigues
.
Mike Constable, CEO of Huawei Marine, said the partnership with PCCW Global will revolutionize Rodriguez's broadband infrastructure by revolutionizing high-speed internet connectivity and facilitating the development of digital communications
