4 million British homes.
According to reports, the Hornsea 2 offshore wind farm is located about 89 kilometers off the coast of Yorkshire, England, with an installed capacity of more than 1.
3 GW and an area of 462 square kilometers, which is more than
half of the area of New York City.
The Hornsea 2 uses Siemens Gamesa turbines with blade lengths of 81 meters
.
"A single rotation of wind turbine blades can provide electricity for the average UK household for 24 hours," the company said
.
After the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, European countries are trying to wean themselves off the demand
for Russian fossil fuels, including natural gas.
"The current global event highlights more than ever the importance of landmark renewable energy projects such as Hornsea 2, helping the UK improve the security and resilience of energy supplies and reduce costs
for consumers by reducing reliance on expensive fossil fuels.
"
The UK has a mature offshore wind industry that is expected to continue to expand in the coming years, with the authorities aiming to reach 50 GW
of installed capacity by 2030.
The UK set a target
of 300 GW of offshore wind by mid-century before Brexit in January 2020.
