Hawaiki Submarine Cable, a submarine cable system operator in Hawaiki, New Zealand, has selected Oregon as its landing and operating partner
, building an undersea cable project connecting Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and the continental United States.
After completing a 4,000-kilometer ocean survey survey between Pacific City and Honolulu, Oregon, Hawaiki signed a landing-party agreement
with Alaska Communications.
The submarine cable spans 14,000 kilometers and can provide an overall capacity of more than 30Tbps, making it the largest link
between the United States and Australia/New Zealand.
Gina Bohreer, senior vice president of Hawaiki North America, said: "Oregon may be the best option
for landing submarine cables on the west coast of the United States.
