Danish offshore wind developers planning to invest in offshore wind farms near Hawaii have recently submitted an application
to the U.
S.
Department of the Interior.
The offshore wind farm is more than five times deeper than offshore wind projects in other regions and is expected to use 100 ultra-large wind turbines of more than 6MW and floating foundations

At present, one of the alternative floating foundations for this offshore wind project is the semi-submersible foundation
of Principle Power in the United States.
The company received a $285 million subsidy from the U.
S.
government last summer to test its semi-submersible technology
off Seattle.
When completed, the Hawaiian offshore wind project will be the first commercial floating infrastructure project
in the United States.
