Recently, Google, busy developing a pair of energy-efficient data center campuses in Tennessee and North Alabama, announced a more ambitious plan to develop a 413-megawatt pipeline
of photovoltaic projects in two states.
Google announced that over the next few years, it will purchase production from several new solar farms as part of an agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for a pipeline with 1.
6 million solar panels, equivalent to a combined size of 65,000 home rooftop PV systems
.
The two largest PV projects are located at Yum Restaurant in Hollywood, Alabama and Tennessee, with an installed capacity of 150MW
each.
These will be the largest PV projects ever built for Google, as well as some of the larger renewable energy installations
developed in the Tennessee Valley region.
When completed, the two PV installations will consume all the electricity
consumed by Google's data centers.
Google will also assist in the development of more PV projects in the region to increase the total generation capacity to 413 megawatts
.
TVA's developer partners, NextEra Energy Resources and Invenergy, will employ hundreds of workers in the region, provide long-term lease payments to owners, and generate millions of dollars in economic activity and tax revenue
