On September 14, General Motors announced that by 2050, all 350 of the company's 350 sites in 59 countries around the world will be converted to renewable energy
.
It is reported that more than 10 large enterprises such as Wal-Mart, Unilever and Apple have also made the same commitment
.
GM previously pledged to convert 125 megawatts of total annual energy consumption used on the company's equipment to renewable energy
by 2020.
However, this plan will be completed
ahead of schedule.
The 30MWh solar array installed at the Cadillac assembly plant in Jinqiao, Shanghai, has started operation and is expected to achieve this goal
by the end of this year.
GM also said it has solar arrays at 22 sites, three using landfill natural gas and four soon to start using wind power
.
GM says it can't generate electricity from sunlight at night, and it can't generate wind power
when there's no wind.
The company solved this problem
by using the battery produced on the hybrid "VOLT".
Currently, the company has implemented
it in the Milford proving cloud data center.
Batteries are key to the introduction of photovoltaics and wind power, and companies such as Daimler and Nissan have plans to convert batteries for electric vehicles that cannot be recycled to other uses
