Last year, the world has been dependent on sunlight as it invests more in solar energy than coal, oil, gas and nuclear
.
Global investment in renewable energy reached $160.
8 billion in 2017
According to a new report by UN Environment, the Frankfurt College-UNEP Collaboration Centre and Bloomberg New Energy Finance, renewable energy attracted US$160.
8 billion in investment in 2017, with a record 98 GW
of new solar capacity added.
Solar power investment in all total renewable energy investments excluding large-scale hydropower was $279 billion, higher than the $103 billion in new investments
in coal and natural gas, according to the report.
Last year, 157 GW of renewable energy projects were commissioned globally, up significantly from 143 GW in 2016, and after adjusting the closure of some existing plants, it far exceeded the 70 GW of new fossil fuel capacity
.
In 2017, developing economies, including China, Brazil and India, committed to invest $177 billion in renewable power generation, which is 20%
more than the $103 billion investment in developed countries.
It is said that the cost of solar power, as well as wind power, will continue to drive global deployment
to some extent.
Erik Solheim, head of UN Environment, said: "The massive increase in solar investment shows that the global energy map is changing and, more importantly, the economic benefits
of this shift.
”
Investing in renewable energy will yield benefits to more people, provide more jobs, and be better quality jobs and higher-paying jobs
.
Clean energy means less pollution and healthier, happier development
