Germany's sluggish PV market shows no signs of improvement, with only 100MW installed in May and 3,100 solar systems successfully connected to the grid in May, barely exceeding 40GW of installed capacity
.
The German solar market is showing signs of recovery, with the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) yesterday releasing installation data showing that solar installations reached 100.
29MW
in May.
That's the highest reading since 2016 and well below the rebound expected this summer
.
This result is somewhat striking because the tenders for four large projects have been completed, but it seems that many projects have not yet been installed
.
Bundesnetzagentur data shows that two utility-scale projects were completed in May with a capacity of 12.
389MW.
Of the 120 winning projects, only about 10 were completed
in May.
On the positive side, Germany has now completed the 40GW PV installation milestone
.
German data shows that 40.
093GW of photovoltaic projects are currently connected to the German grid
.
Due to Germany's low installed capacity, PV FIT subsidies have not been cut
.
The subsidy rate currently ranges from €0.
0853 to €0.
1231, depending on the size of the system, and the FIT policy will be carried over until September
.
If PV installations exceed the targets set by the government, FIT is expected to be cut
.
The government's annual installed capacity target is 2.
4GW to 2.
6GW, compared to 1.
336GW
between June 2015 and May 2016.
As of the end of May 2016, only 400MW of solar energy was connected to the German grid
