GE upgrades eight gas turbines at TEPCO's Yokohama Thermal Power Plant

At the end of 2012, TEPCO publicly released a "consortium bid" to solicit innovative solutions
.
GE submitted a package solution to help TEPCO save fuel and life cycle costs, and set out to find a cost-effective way to upgrade its existing power infrastructure
.
TEPCO therefore chose GE to upgrade the Yokohama thermal power plant in order to reduce fuel and operating costs
by shortening service interruptions.
The gas turbine replacement is GE's largest power service deal in Japan, and will add a total of 27 megawatts of power output for every 7% increase in the thermal power plant, improving the overall efficiency of the power plant by 1%.
After the implementation of the project, the annual fuel cost of the plant will be reduced to 1 billion yen (about 80 million US dollars), while reducing carbon dioxide
by 3,000 tons per year.
The replacement includes a gas turbine, combustion system and control system
.
When the old gas turbines are replaced, the new facility will be built
on site.
As early as the beginning of May 2015, the first equipment replacement work began and ended
on July 31.
