GE Power, a global energy leader, has teamed up with Iraq's Ministry of Electricity to launch the Northwest Baghdad substation, which can connect up to 1,000 MW to the national grid and help reduce bottlenecks while increasing the number
of hours of available power.
Underlining their shared commitment to supporting Iraq's power infrastructure development, the Iraq Ministry and GE Power's Grid Solutions business celebrated the invigoration
of the Northwest Baghdad substation.
The event was attended by the Prime Minister of Iraq and senior officials from the National Ministry of Electricity, including various government agencies, General Electric and other organizations
.
GE's scope of work on turnkey 400/132/11 kV gas-insulated substation projects includes design, equipment manufacturing, on-site delivery, installation, testing and commissioning, and personnel training
.
The company said in a statement that the construction, installation, commissioning and testing of the project was done by GE Iraq engineers in cooperation with local subcontractors in Iraq
.
The facility powers the 132 kV substations in Kadhmiya, Al Shualla and Al Sabbeaat as well as five more substations planned for future development, and helps connect electricity from the Basmaya power plant, the Taji gas plant and the mobile gas-fired power plant to the national grid
.
The substation, which is about 35 kilometers from the city, could help connect 1,000 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, reducing bottlenecks and increasing the number
of hours of available power.
"Iraq's Ministry of Electricity is seeking to provide reliable and uninterrupted power
throughout the country," the Minister of Electricity said.
The opening of the North-West substation in Baghdad reflects our efforts
to achieve this goal.
