France proposes to tender for a 300 MW photovoltaic project at the site of the nuclear power plant

The PV project is located at the site of the Fessenheim nuclear power plant in the Alsace province of Haute-Rhine in northeastern France, which is expected to be decommissioned in 2020
    .

The CSFD said in a statement that the terms of the tender have been finalized and will be launched
by the end of the year.
French public sector financial institution Caisse des Dépôtset Consignations provided further financial support, but did not provide further details, so crowdfunding for the project will be encouraged
    .

According to local portal 20minutes, CSFD will allocate 200 MW of ground-based solar and 100 MW of rooftop PV capacity
    through tenders.

The French government said energy storage and geothermal energy facilities in the Alsace region are also being considered to improve electricity supply
following the closure of the nuclear power plant.

The German government has repeatedly called on neighboring France to shut down the 40-year-old nuclear plant
    .
The plant has historically been temporarily shut down
    due to safety concerns.
