French President Shri Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi unveiled
the largest 75 MW solar power plant project in Madhya Pradesh in Mirzapur, India.
It is understood that the project can produce 130 million kilowatts of electricity per year
.
The plant was acquired
by the French company ENGIE through a public tender process.
The electricity generated by the project will be provided by ENGIE at INPIAH 4.
43 per RPIAH under a 25-year power purchase agreement
.
The Government of India provided project feasibility gap funding for the project at INR 7425 crore per MW
.
The country's Ministry of Energy earlier approved the establishment of four solar power parks in Uttar Pradesh with a total capacity of 440 MW
.
These solar parks were established
by Lucknow Solar Park Development Corporation, a joint venture between the Solar Energy Corporation of India and the non-traditional energy development agency under the UP government.
Among them, a 50 MW solar power plant has been completed
in Allahabad.
Another 40 MW of solar power projects are ready for trial operation
in the Jalaun area.
With the completion of the 75 MW power plant in Mirzapur, the total capacity of the Uttar Pradesh solar power plant has increased to 165 MW
.
A 225 MW solar power plant project is expected to be open for bidding
on April 12, 2018.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined visiting French President Shri Emmanuel Macron for the International Solar Alliance Summit
in New Delhi.
Representatives from 61 countries and heads of State from 21 countries attended the groundbreaking ceremony
.
The International Solar Alliance is the Prime Minister's dream to bring the world together on one platform to promote the use of solar energy and make solar energy
available to all at a cheaper price.
It is understood that the ISA is the first global treaty-based intergovernmental organization
established in India.
The headquarters is located at the National Solar Energy Institute
of Gulkhan Hampahari in Haryana.
The Union of India Power Minister said India is one of the pioneers in promoting the use of
solar energy.
India has set an ambitious target to build 100,000 megawatts of solar power plants
in the country by 2022.
He also said that given the progress made so far, the country will achieve the target ahead of the
plan.
India's energy minister said solar energy is vital to India's energy security and the government is moving
rapidly in this direction.
