The Banrock Station brand, owned by Accolade Wines, has announced the launch of a flat wine bottle made from 100% recycled plastic
.
The 750ml (75cl) flat bottle is made from 100% recycled PET (rPET) plastic, according to Accolade Wines
.
Compared with the use of virgin plastic, the bottle production process saves 75% of energy consumption, while reducing emissions by 79%
.
According to Banrock Station, the wine bottle weighs 63 grams and is 87% lighter than conventional glass bottles, resulting in significant CO2 savings in the logistics supply chain
.
In addition, due to the flat design of the wine bottle, its overall volume is also 40% smaller than that of conventional glass bottles, which means that twice as many wine bottles can be carried on the same size logistics pallet
.
Lindsay Holas, brand manager of Accolade Wines, said: “We have always been environmentally conscious and our goal is to encourage consumers to do ‘good things’ for themselves and the planet, and at the same time, we actively respond to retailers’ demand for green products
.
He added, “Using these flat wine bottles means Accolade Wine is taking a big step in its environmental journey and we are committed to responsible stewardship from the vineyard to the consumer
