Due to the related earthquake, the Dutch government has limited natural gas production from the Groningen offshore field and wants to continue to reduce production as part of
its emission reduction plan.
"Our renewable energy industry will have a competitive advantage
because of the availability of increasingly cheap renewable energy.
" The move would also help related industries, including transportation, storage and conversion to other forms of energy
such as hydrogen, the government said in a statement.
The government says the offshore wind farm project will bring up to €20 billion in investment and create 10,000 jobs
.
The government says that once the project is completed, the Dutch offshore wind capacity will reach 11.
