    According to a recent announcement by Ecuador's Ministry of Energy, five international companies have been prequalified to bid for the construction and operation of the Conolophus Solar + Energy Storage project in Ecuador

    The five international companies (including conglomerates) include Conolophus, Gransolar-Total Eren, Voltalia, Woojin Industrial Systems and Scatec Solar-Energy Flex
    .

    It is understood that the tender will award a 25-year concession to build and operate a 14.
    8 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant and a 40.
    9 MWh battery storage system
    on Baltra Island in the Galapagos Islands.
    The ministry expects the project to bring in a capital investment
    of about US$45 million (€38 million).

    According to the presentation, the project will be developed
    on the old airstrip.
    Once operational, the Conolophus plant will power the transmission system connecting Baltra to nearby Santa Cruz
    .

    The government expects the new facility to help Santa Cruz power 70 percent from renewable energy to meet the island's demand
    for 2023.
