Five Dow Plants Earn ISCC PLUS Certification, Driving Global Advances in Circular Plastic Production

Dow recently announced that its five largest production sites in Freeport, Texas, USA; Tarragona, Spain; Ternussen, Netherlands; Bochren, Germany; International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS certification is achieved through rigorous tracking of continuous raw material usage

This marks an important step in the company's global strategy to use advanced recycling and bio-based feedstocks to close the loop on plastic waste and expand its ability to recycle plastics
.

ISCC is a globally applicable sustainability certification system covering all sustainable feedstocks, including circular feedstocks produced from plastic waste and bio-based renewable energy derived from agricultural and forestry biomass or waste products
.
This certification recognizes Dow's implementation of environmentally, socially and economically sustainable production requirements
.
And, the certification was obtained after a comprehensive and independent external audit to ensure full traceability of the product supply chain and to ensure that Dow and its suppliers adhere to and accelerate sustainable practices

Each of the five Dow sites audited by ISCC has achieved PLUS certification, the result of different innovations that help contribute to a more sustainable system

The recycled plastic produced at the Freeport site can be used to develop flexible food packaging made from a single material, polyethylene
.
At the Terneuzen plant, its cracker and all polyethylene production lines are certified, while the Tarragona cracker, octene plant and polymerization plant are certified
.
In Boehlen, its crackers and warehouses in Rostock and Teutschenthal were certified, as was the Schkopau plant producing DOWLEX™ polyethylene resin
