ExxonMobil has introduced a new family of PE resins designed to produce products that are tougher, tougher and easier to process than competitors
.
Exceed S performance PE resins enable users to reduce film formulation and design complexity while improving film performance, conversion efficiency and packaging durability compared to currently available products, the company said
.
"Film designs have become increasingly complex, and processors often have to compromise between ease of processing and finished product performance," said Tom Miller, ExxonMobil's Exceed S marketing manager.
Multi-component resin blending presents challenges for today’s processors in the
production of printed films and laminate films.
Multiple steps are required to produce printed films and convert them into durable packaging
.
This results in high scrap rates and inefficiencies caused by human error.
.
"
“Exceed S performance PE resins are simple and compromising
,” Miller said.
Now processors can get high-performance, high-stiffness and toughness products that are easy to process and get resin solutions with less compounding, simplifying operation to improve the durability of the packaging
.
”
This range is designed for films used in food, industrial and agricultural applications
.
These resins can be designed for recyclability and meet products containing recycled resins
.
“Processors will be able to rethink film designs and reduce the complexity of their formulations,” Miller said.
“For example, they will no longer need to add HDPE and LPDE to increase hardness and make processing easier
.
” In addition, processors can create more Flat and less stretch films to increase the efficiency of printing and packaging lines
.
This will allow them to create more durable and flexible packaging
.
The first three commercially available resin grades are designed to ensure low melt pressure and high throughput blown film lines
.
The new resin will allow processors to create a wide range of packaging and film applications
.
For example, they can be processed into large, heavy-duty bags for industry and agriculture, as well as silo bags designed for agriculture to provide enhanced puncture, impact and tear resistance
.
The resin's combination of low melt pressure and high throughput can help increase processing plant throughput
.
In primary packaging, non-laminated coextruded films for pouches or pouches containing liquids, food or other goods can benefit from increased toughness and are less likely to break when transported or dropped, Miller said
.
According to ExxonMobil, the multi-wall bladder material used in hot-fill bag-in-box packaging exhibits exceptional resistance to heat-induced clogging and flex cracking
.
Miller said the new resins could be used to improve film properties, maintain similar properties at thinner thicknesses, produce more durable single-material products, or contain high percentages of recycled content
.
"ExxonMobil has been at the forefront of PE innovation for nearly 30 years
.
The new Exceed S-Series reflects our deep, long-standing relationships with customers and our state-of-the-art product and process development
," he added.
The opportunities offered by Exceed S high performance PE have been successfully worked with over 75 ExxonMobil customers worldwide in over 100 different applications
.
