Avient has announced a new addition to its reSound™ R grades that contain recycled elastomer content.
The new TPEs all contain 25% post-consumer recycled content (PCR) from shattered automotive windshields.

According to reports, these materials are the result of close cooperation between Evante and Shark Solutions
.
Shark Solutions is a leading supplier of sustainable polyvinyl butyral (PVB) products
.
An estimated 75 million broken windshields need to be replaced each year
.
If not handled properly, thousands of tons of PVB in the inner layers of glass end up in landfills every year
.
In fact, when glass is recycled, PVB can be processed to become an alternative raw material for polymers
.
Avante processes PVB to make it a more sustainable TPE
.
The new reSound R grades were developed with a hardness of 45 to 55 Shore A for general-purpose applications in the consumer goods and automotive industries
.
Both TPE grades are injection moldable, overmolded with polypropylene (PP), and easy to color
.
According to Evante, these reSound R grades with PCR components offer performance characteristics similar to traditional TPEs and are suitable for many consumer durables and grips - such as personal care products, lawn and garden tools, golf clubs and footwear
.
Their performance characteristics are also suitable for automotive applications that can benefit from vibration damping, such as door mats, door dampers and glove boxes
.
