According to the ICIS-MRC price report, European producers have adjusted their prices for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) destined for the CIS countries in December
.
The December contract price for ethylene was €10/t lower than the previous month, which in theory suggests that the net cost of PVC production has fallen by €4/t compared to November
.
However, strong demand, including from the domestic market, offset this and kept prices at the same level
.
The maintenance period for European plants is over and the supply of PVC is gradually increasing, but the market is still far from saturated
.
In addition, disruptions to some producers remain
.
According to market participants, Anwil in Poland in particular stopped production due to technical problems
.
All these factors have allowed European producers to maintain record price levels in domestic and export markets over the past few years
.
In general, SPVC destined for the CIS market traded at €1,650-1,710/t FCA in December, comparable to November levels
.
