IHS Markit analysts expect double-digit growth in the European PV market this year, with solar demand increasing from about 9 GW in 2017 to about 11 GW
in 2018.
European PV capacity will increase by 11 GW in 2018
Last year, the European solar market grew by 23%
year-on-year.
This year's expected growth will be concentrated in a handful of countries that offer favorable regulatory environments, helped by a pick-up
in demand brought about by falling PV module prices over the past few years.
According to IHS Markit, the top five PV markets in Europe in 2017 were Turkey, Germany, France, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom
.
Two-thirds of last year's new capacity was installed in these five countries
.
For this year, analysts predict similar levels of growth will occur in more countries, including a solar renaissance
in Spain.
West 2018?? Banya is expected to be among the fifth largest PV markets
in Europe.
"The three largest markets in 2018 will be Germany, Turkey and France
.
" IHS analyst Susanne von Aichberger said
.
Analysts further predict that large-scale PV systems will account for about
a third of Europe's overall annual growth.
Most projects will be funded
by tender.
In Turkey, such power plants also have feed-in tariffs
.
The remaining two-thirds of the growth will come from private and commercial PV rooftop systems
.
According to analysts, demand for these systems is driven
not only by state subsidies, but also by profitable self-consumption patterns.
