According to World Gas news on January 7, Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor has discovered a new oil near the Fram field off the Norwegian North Sea and will consider tying
it to the Troll field platform.
In the Troll- and Fram areas, new discoveries have been made
in the 35/10-7 S and 35/10-7 A exploration wells of the Toppand block.
Equinor revealed on Friday that preliminary calculations of the expected size indicate that the recoverable oil equivalent is between 3.
3 million and 5.
2 million standard cubic meters, or about 21 million to 33 million barrels
.
Geir Sørtveit, Senior Vice President for Exploration and Production operations in the West, said: "We are delighted to see our continued success
in the Troll and Fram areas.
We also believe this finding is commercially viable and will consider tying
it to the Troll B or Troll C platform.
These findings are close to existing infrastructure and are characterized by high profitability, short payback periods and low
CO2 emissions.
”
According to Equinor, several discoveries in the Troll and Fram areas over the past few years suggest that even mature areas can be revitalized based on new information and modern exploration techniques
.
The Norwegian company said Toppand is the fifth discovery in the region and that proven resources could exceed 300 million barrels of oil equivalent
