ON will deploy 12 MW of rooftop solar in Hungary for automaker Audi, the largest rooftop solar PV project
in Europe to date.
Specifically, E.
ON will install around 35,000 solar panels
on the roofs of two logistics centers at Audi's plant in Gyor, Hungary.
The system will cover approximately 160,000 square meters (1.
72 million square feet).
Construction will begin in August 2019 and be completed
in early 2020.
When completed, the solar park will generate more than 9.
5 GWh of electricity
per year.
"Around 70 percent of Audi Hungary's heat needs are already met
by geothermal energy.
Our goal is to achieve fully CO2-neutral plant operations in the future," says
Achim Heinfling, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungary.
Audi also revealed that the group's goal is to keep all its production sites climate-neutral
by 2030.
