Energy Networks UK launches £90 million innovation competition
The Energy Network Association (ENA) has launched a Call for Network Innovation Competition (NIC) to support a range of large-scale energy technology projects
.
Research shows that investing in energy networks with smart power innovations could save up to £8 billion a year, with consumers expected to save up to £214 billion by 2050 if new technologies are used to drive decarbonisation
.
Successful applicants will work with Energy Networks to compete for up to £20 million available for gas network projects and up to £70 million for
electricity network projects.
The ENA said the proposal must provide clear cost-effectiveness for the public and the energy network, while promoting environmental improvements and demonstrating real innovation
.
David Smith, CEO of ENA, said: "This is an exciting opportunity for innovators to deliver projects
that make a real impact in the way communities operate across the country.
”
Network innovation is essential to save the public energy bills while providing the nation with a smarter, cleaner, and more flexible energy system
.
