Aircraft structure supplier Triumph Group will partner with Embraer to conduct flight verification of thermoplastic composite primary structures

Triumph Group says the elevator structure will be made of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic, a first in the industry

The welded thermoplastic structure eliminates holes and fasteners and promises to reduce the cost of the primary structure by 20% and weight by 10% compared to traditional thermoset composites

In addition, Gulfstream's G650 business jet already features induction-welded thermoplastic elevators from GKN Fokker, Rudder and floor, the new flagship model G700 will also use the same structure
