EllaLink announced yesterday that its new submarine cable system, EllaLink, has landed in the port of Sines, Portugal, and will establish a connection
with Latin America from Sines.
It is expected to be fully operational in the second quarter of this year, providing an unprecedented level
of international connectivity between the two continents.
According to reports, EllaLink is the first submarine cable system to directly connect Europe and Latin America, which will open a "corridor" for data transmission between the two continents, providing new opportunities
for the two continents.
The EllaLink system also includes a number of land lines, in partnership with Equinix to connect strategic data centers in Lisbon, Madrid, Marseille, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Fortaleza
.
By establishing the shortest direct path between Europe and Latin America, EllaLink reduces latency by 50% compared to current infrastructure, with a real value of less than 60 milliseconds
between Portugal and Brazil.
EllaLink is expected to start operations by the end of the second quarter and plans to connect to Madeira and Cape Verde and then to Marseille, which will increase connectivity
to Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
Other potential connections with Mauritania, Morocco, French Guiana and the Canary Islands are also being planned
