    This week, Egypt signed an agreement with Cyprus for the development of a 2,000-megawatt undersea high-voltage direct current cable system, which aims to interconnect
    Egypt's power grid with Europe by connecting Egypt with Cyprus.

    According to the agreement, the project, known as the EuroAfrica Interconnector for Europe-Africa Grid Interconnection, will be completed in two phases, with 1,000 MW of transmission capacity in the first phase and the remaining 1,000 MW in the second phase

    The signing of the agreement follows the conclusion of a feasibility study carried out by the initiator of the project, EuroAfrica Interconnector, which showed the benefits of the project and its maturity to allow it to move into the implementation phase

    In a statement after the signing ceremony, the representative of Egypt said: "Cyprus is now the main hub for the transmission of electricity from Africa to Europe, and Egypt positions itself as a regional energy center
