Egypt has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power Company to build a power plant in southern Egypt with an investment of US$2.

It is understood that the plant, with a capacity of 2,250 MW, will be built in Luxor province in southern Egypt
.
The facility will be operational
by 2023 at the latest.
Back in July, Egypt's president announced the opening of three new power stations at a total cost of 6 billion euros ($7 billion) as part of
the country's plan to fill the power generation gap and boost its momentum.
Egypt experienced sharp power shortages after 2011 that led to frequent summer blackouts and cuts in industrial output
.
The new project, launched in 2015, is part of an 8 billion euro agreement to increase electricity generation by 50 percent
through new gas and wind farms.
