Solar Century announced it will build the largest solar cell energy storage system
    in East Africa.
The company will install two solar power systems at the Kenya International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), a scientific institution based in Nairobi; A third solar system was installed at the Thomas Odhiambo campus in western Kenya, while East Africa's largest solar cell energy storage system
    was installed there.
The three solar systems have a combined capacity of 1154 kW
    .

Dr Segenet Kelemu, Director of ICIPE, said: "Our centre hopes to use this project to create a sustainable energy supply and reduce its dependence
on fossil fuels by building solar photovoltaic power plants.

Construction of the clean energy and energy storage system is expected to begin in July this year and be completed
in October of the same year.
The construction cost, which will cost about $2.
    5 million, will be provided
by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

By then, nearly 40% of the center's energy can be provided by solar photovoltaic power generation and energy storage systems
    .
The existence of energy storage systems can store excess electricity to power
when solar energy is insufficient at night or cloudy.
