Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that it saved 12.
6 GWh of electricity in 2017, while also reducing carbon emissions
    by 5,430 tons.

The Road and Transport Authority said the savings would help achieve RTA's strategic objective
of fostering a sustainable environment through energy conservation.

RTA is committed to achieving the Dubai Government's vision of sustainability through the introduction of electricity saving
    schemes.
Replacing HID lights with LED lights is part of its energy-saving measures, which include partially turning off lights in residential areas and modifying street lighting times, taking into account the safety and security
    of road users.

"The resulting energy savings are expected to reach 22 GWh in 2018, which is almost double what was achieved in 2017," RTA said, "and at the same time, it is equally important to promote positive environmental practices, as it leads to significant changes
in environmental, economic and social attitudes.
