DSM and Firmenich have announced that they have entered into a business combination agreement to establish an innovative partnership in the fields of nutrition, beauty and wellness, named DSM-Firmenich, which is expected to end in 2023 The merger was completed in the first half of the year

It is understood that DSM, founded in 1902, has transformed from a Dutch national mining company into a health, nutrition and bioscience enterprise; Firmenich is a private family-owned company established in 1895 and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, specializing in the production of flavors and fragrances

The merger of Firmenich and DSM will create a creative and innovative partnership in nutrition, beauty and wellness, with 4 high-performing and complementary businesses including Fragrances and Beauty, Food & Beverage/Flavour, Health, Nutrition and care and animal nutrition and health

In addition, the new company will be one of the world's largest providers of probiotics, enzymes and mycotoxins risk management, as well as a variety of impactful innovations such as methane inhibitors and fish oil algae alternatives

DSM-Firmenich said that the core of the new company will be deep scientific research capabilities, with a large number of cross-integration opportunities in biological science, fermentation, green chemistry, receptor biology, sensory perception and formulation, supplemented by analytical science, data science, etc.

In recent years, mergers between giants and giants have not been uncommon

On the one hand, global consumer giants can achieve rapid expansion through mergers and acquisitions and deploy new fields

On the other hand, the upstream R&D barriers in the food industry are very high.
