Denmark's Vestas claims to have become the first wind turbine manufacturer to build a portfolio of more than 100GW of services, which also includes turbines from rival manufacturers of around 8GW
.
While turbine suppliers have increased installed capacity to 115GW in 81 countries, Vestas has developed its service division into a "highly profitable business with broader prospects,"
the company said.
However, it does not provide a geographical breakdown
of the more than 47,000 turbines served.
Vestas added that it was able to analyze wind resource and turbine performance data in its 100GW repair service portfolio and understand how to optimize wind power generation
.
Christian Venderby, executive vice president of the company's services division, explained that every day, 27,000 turbines in service are sent to the Vestas Performance and Diagnostics Center and through its Utopus Insights, its Utopus Insights, a subsidiary based in the United States for the service and maintenance
of turbines and systems, as well as advanced digital analytics applications.
Venderby added: "The use of big data, analytics and digital tools allows us to create effective service solutions that optimize the business case for our customers and make wind power a reliable part
of the global energy mix.
"Wind turbine services play a vital role in the global energy system, and scale will continue to be important
to ensure customers have the right value proposition as the market evolves towards merchant conditions and concerns about wind power life cycle costs.
