After a very strong 2021, demand for polypropylene (PP) in North America despite weakness in some consumer markets, the CEO of Bukesco Americas said on Monday.
It is expected to continue to stabilize in 2022
.
Blasco Americas CEO Nicolitz said in an interview with ICIS: "The North American PP market has experienced a year as strong as 2021, with demand growing by 7%-8%, and typically the second year will be Steady
.
But in 2022, North American PP demand will continue to be healthy and we think stable demand will continue into the summer
.
”
Nicolitz made the remarks to ICIS on the sidelines of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) annual meeting in Colorado Springs, USA
.
"The big question is: Will inflation disrupt this? Inflation is starting to have an impact because we're seeing signs of indecision in the consumer market
.
That's more than we expected to be for most of the year ," said Nikolitz.
The basic judgment of tight inventory
.
North American supply will improve later this year, when the tight supply situation may ease
.
”
On the retail and wholesale side, supply is plentiful, while there are some concerns about the impact of inflation on demand
.
On the automotive side, however, demand remains pent-up due to chip shortages and a lack of raw materials, Nikolitz noted
.
"While other markets may soften, we expect the auto market to remain solid this year and next," said Nikolitz.
"
We have seen a slight improvement in PP demand, which will depend on how much OEMs can absorb
.
At the same time, North American PP imports have been a challenge due to continued supply chain and logistics disruptions
.
