Sinochem News recently, Covestro announced that it will continue to work with Tongji University to promote industry-university-research cooperation in China
.
It is reported that the predecessor of the research institute jointly established by the two parties was the Tongji-Bayer Ecological Building and Materials Research Institute established in 2011, and was officially renamed Tongji-Covestro Innovation Research Institute in 2017
.
In the past 10 years, the institute has focused on polymer material innovation and carried out material research in the fields of construction, electric vehicle batteries, and robots
Last year, the Institute announced positive progress in a number of joint materials research projects in the field of electric vehicles
.
These projects are designed to help reduce the weight of the battery pack, increase the capacity of electrode materials, or enhance the safety performance of the battery
The Innovation Research Institute also cooperated with the Yichi Team of the School of Automobile of Tongji University to use Covestro's 3D printing technology to print the end plate mold of the new car TR-20 for the 2020 season, providing a faster, more economical and safer digital manufacturing solution
.
This cooperation is also the first time that polycarbonate large-scale 3D printing has been applied in the field of composite molding molds
At the same time, the Institute of Innovation also held a student competition on the theme of circular economy for the first time, focusing on the recycling and reuse of polyurethane foam from mattresses.
Realize circular economy and explore innovative solutions
.
Lei Huanli, President of Covestro China, said: “After ten years of sharpening a sword, the Innovation Institute has become an important carrier for Covestro to promote the concept of open innovation
.
Under China’s “14th Five-Year Plan” and “Double Carbon” goals , Covestro firmly believes that innovative and sustainable material solutions are promising, and hopes to continue to deepen cooperation with Tongji University in production, education and research, and bear more fruits
In the past 10 years, the Tongji-Covestro Innovation Research Institute has achieved gratifying results in fostering talents, educating people through scientific research, and innovating in production, education and research
.
Michael Schmidt, Dean of the Tongji-Covestro Innovation Institute, Covestro’s Global Innovation Management Leader, and Asia-Pacific Innovation Leader Michael Schmidt said that in the future, the two parties can continue to work together in the same boat and further strengthen industry-university-research cooperation.
