On July 2, Covestro declared force majeure on all its MDI products in Brunsbitt, Germany
.
The MDI plant was shut down during the routine maintenance and stocking of the plant in August and September.
The reason for the shutdown was an unexpected failure of the production system
.
At present, it is uncertain how long this situation will continue, but it is expected to cause a large degree of delay in the availability of aggregated MDI and pure MDI
.
In addition, Covestro's annual output of 330,000 tons of MDI and other products in Texas, such as liquid caustic soda, Makroblend polycarbonate and hydrochloric acid (HCl), are still under force majeure
.
It is reported that due to the local cold wave in February this year, the supply of chemical raw materials and other operational problems in the Gulf of Mexico region of Texas and Louisiana in the United States have not yet fully returned to normal
.
It is also reported that the polyol and TDI products of the plant were released from force majeure on June 1 and July 1, respectively
.
