· Carbon dioxide-based cardyon® material achieves a new breakthrough in sports applications
· Creation of a polyurethane walkway at Covestro's Asia Pacific Innovation Center
· Innovative materials can partially replace crude oil and help the development of circular economy
A few days ago, Covestro, together with Shandong Yinuowei Polyurethane Co.
, Ltd.
, a professional plastic sports venue material manufacturer and engineering contractor, completed the laying of a polyurethane line using Covestro's cardyon® material at the Covestro Asia Pacific Innovation Center in Shanghai.
Wellness trail, the material is based on carbon dioxide
.
The polyurethane health trail located in the Asia-Pacific Innovation Center of Covestro in Shanghai marks a new breakthrough in the application of Covestro's cardyon® polyether polyol in the field of plastic runways.
It is also the first time that this innovative carbon dioxide material has been applied to sports floors in China
.
"The cooperation with INOV to build a polyurethane health trail is an important step for us to develop innovative sustainable materials in the field of sports
.
Dou Zheng (left), Vice President of Commercial Operations of Covestro's Polyurethane Business Unit in China, and Xu Jun, Chairman of INOV Group, witnessed the new polyurethane health trail settled in Covestro's Asia Pacific Innovation Center
.
The carbon dioxide applied to the trail is contained in the adhesive, or more precisely, in one of its components – the cardyon® polyether polyol developed by Covestro

Use carbon dioxide to save oil resourcescardyon® is Covestro's breakthrough product for turning CO2 waste into treasure
.
"It's a great pleasure to see the CO2 Trail at the Covestro Asia Pacific Innovation Center, which is another example of our commitment to driving innovation through sustainable development
.
" Dr.
Michael Schmidt, Head of Innovation Asia Pacific at Covestro ) said, "We look forward to using carbon dioxide as a new raw material to achieve application breakthroughs in more fields
.
The utilization of carbon dioxide will form a closed loop, thereby saving oil resources and contributing to the realization of a circular economy
.
"
Cardyon® has previously been used in the production of soft polyurethane foam in soft furniture such as mattresses, and in the sports flooring of a well-known hockey rink in Germany
.
In addition, it is used to produce innovative elastic textile fibers, the latest example being flexible foams for automotive interiors
.
The cooperation between Covestro and INOV to build polyurethane health trails marks the breakthrough application of cardyon® innovative materials in China, and further strengthens the in-depth cooperation between the two parties in the field of plastic runways
