Corning Corporation recently announced that it will spend $60 million to build a new fiber-optic cable production plant in a new business park in Catawba County, North Carolina, which is expected to create up to 110 local jobs
.
According to reports, the new factory covers an area of 27 acres, and it is also the first manufacturing enterprise
signed to settle in the business park.
Corning's choice to build a new cable plant here will receive a range of government incentives, including $605,000 worth of land and up to $1.
7 million in tax
rebates over five years.
Corning is committed to creating 75 new jobs by December 31, 2020, with the remainder by December 31
, 2023.
Corning said the company needs to expand capacity to meet growing demand
for fiber optic cables.
