Peru's Southern Copper company will seek to boost several new and pending projects located in the country as prices rise and supply remains tight

With copper prices rising and global supply still tight this year, Raul Jacob, vice president of finance at Southern Copper, said in an interview that later this year, it will move forward with the development of a huge $5.
4 billion copper mine project, including the Chancas and Michiquillay copper projects

The executive also added that the company, one of the world's top copper miners, has also resumed a $1.
35 billion smelter project proposed in southern Peru, but the project has not yet been approved
by the board.
Peru is the world's
second-largest copper producer after neighboring Chile.

"The global market clearly gives us an opportunity in which we have the potential to enter more production areas and finance
projects without major hurdles," Jacob said.
