Continental Americas has reached an agreement with the State of Mississippi to purchase a new commercial vehicle tire plant to drive the future growth
of its tire business in the North American market.
Continental has pledged to invest a total of about $1.
4 billion in the long term, employing 2,500 people
over the next decade when the plant reaches full capacity.
The new plant is located in a new development area
in Hyenz County.
Continental will begin site leveling in 2016 and is expected to start construction
of a tire plant in 2018.
The proposed plant covers nearly 1,000 acres and is suitable for the construction of a growing tire plant
.
Although a start date has not yet been announced, the company expects to break ground in the coming months
, depending on market demand.
The company plans to start producing tires for commercial vehicles by the end of 2019
.
Over the past five years, Continental has invested more than $1.
5 billion
in manufacturing, technology, equipment and product development in the United States.
Part of the investment was made to expand tire plants
in Mount Vernon, Illinois, and Sumter, South Carolina.
In addition to the United States, Continental Tire has recently expanded its production capacity in Russia, China and Europe to better meet global demand
in the long term.
